3rd Quarter Submission Feedback

Last Tuesday, 3/22/18, I presented my Third Quarter Submission for my fashion magazine. Based on the critiques I acquired from my peers, evaluating the layout of my magazine, I got some minor revisions to do before my final submission. My cover looks fine, except for the words in the corner because it's kind of hard to see with the white text over the white corner, so I'm going to have to darken it a little bit or add some shadowing to make the words more apparent. Also, I had the idea of the darker outline in my table of contents title and I might just revert it back to just a similar color as the rest of the title because it kind of looked distracting after I presented it. Lastly, I just need to fix the page numbers on my article pages because it looked wrong with both page numbers in the same side when I should've looked at it in the context of it being an actual page of a magazine. One of the page numbers should've been on the left and the other on the right because...

Third Quarter Submission

This is my submission for the third quarter. My magazine is now a September (fall) fashion magazine for 2017. For the article featured in my magazine, I asked an aspiring model who shared her thoughts on the beauty standards of most fashion magazines. This is my cover page for my September issue fashion magazine. I chose harmonic and contrasting colors to make up the entire aesthetics of the cover. I chose a vibrant, gold color for my title because that's one the colors that really stands out even in my audience's peripheral vision. I also chose for the model to wear blue because it coordinates very well to my Table of Contents page and it goes very well with green and yellow. The whole cover photo is minimal because I don't like the overcrowded layout like some magazines share. I feel as if those magazines are overwhelming and overdone. I did, although, placed some accessories on the model to make up for the minimal look, enough so that it doesn't look overdone. ...

Creative Critical Reflection 4

For this project, I utilized different technologies to produce my magazine and my templates, etc. I was able to use a camera, Canon Rebel T6, in order to take photos for my magazine because they're better in capturing photos despite the lighting provided. Since I wanted to take better photos, I had to use the camera in my advantage, but I wasn't sure how to use it because I've never used a camera before. So, I watched different videos from YouTube in order to somewhat master the indicated setting I needed to take the photos. Before the camera, I used an iPhone 7 in order to take photos because I didn't asked for a camera form my teacher sooner. The phone camera was a lot easier to handle than an actual camera, but it was fine because the quality of the photo still stands. Now, after all the photos I took form a phone and a camera, I used my laptop and my phone, once again, in order to edit the photos I took and complete each page. First off, I edited the photo on V...

Creative Critical Reflection 3

Before I made my cover page, table of contents page, and article pages, I had to research a lot about the different magazines and movies out there. In order to really focus on which type of media we wanted to do our project on, we had to watch different movies and look at different magazines and studied the different conventions that each type of media used to make the product successful. Out of all the magazines and movies that I researched, I had finally decided that a magazine was what I intended to do from the beginning because it would really showcase my artistic abilities and photo taking skills. All I had to do was figure out the genre of magazine that I wanted to do, so I conducted more research and see which genre best suited me. I even took a small poll from my friends in order to assess which genre would they most likely be interested in and they said fashion, hence I made a fashion magazine. From all the research I had conducted, I had grown to produce such a product that r...

Creative Critical Reflection 2

My product, according to my vision, would advocate for those people whose do not have a say in society's beauty standards. My product is also relatable to everyone else who feel as if society is not on their side because they're not exactly portrayed by the media as beautiful or "model material." Through the goals I have in mind in producing such a product that could make a difference and or an impact in the fashion industry is extremely engaging to me. Every issue will call for people in today's world who have the potential and confidence to become the next big thing because character is what drives this magazine to strive for success. One part of my goal is to engage my target audience with my product. Every single part of my product is set to suit my target audience. My cover photo was set to engage the audience by the different factors I had placed to please the eye to anyone who takes a look at it. My magazine's name, Émouvant , is French for ap...

Creative Critical Reflection 1

For my product, I made a fashion magazine named Émouvant. My goal was to try and empower youth to be who they are and be confident and free to be who they are. While making my magazine, I had to perform research on how to layout everything to be just like the magazines I saw on the racks at the supermarket; but some of them, I felt as if they were too much, so I didn't use any of them. Based on what I researched, some of the most pristine magazines, I believe, out there had a simplistic layouts. Magazines like Seventeen , or Fashion , or In Style were a little too much for me. Those magazines had a little too much information in the cover and despite the one or two texts on the cover, they weren't subtle at all. Their cover photos weren't too striking for me either because they simply had a solid color background and there wasn't much to see there. The clothing and model option of the covers are sufficient, although. There is still coordination in the maga...

Digital Distribution - Porter

Porter magazine is a magazine for adolescent to middle-aged women. Their print edition is very alluring because everything is so coordinated and the overall layout looks amazing and aesthetically-pleasing. It's more than 200-pages with a lot of content, not just content about beauty, but about empowerment and actual inspiring stories. As a product, they would also have to focus in expanding the name of the magazine, wherein technology could play a role in doing so. They're active on social media, such as Instagram and Twitter, and they have a website like every other magazine company. Their website is so simple and yet so complex at the same time. It's so simple in a way that everything is laid out so organized, black over white and vice versa with contrasted photos to the white background. It's also complex simply because it seemed as if the website was made with so much precision and content. It's fairly easy to navigate through it, which is important in a we...

Digital Distribution - Seventeen

Seventeen magazine is a magazine for teenagers, meant to empower the youth by promoting self-confidence and being models or workers. Their print edition is alluring, with fresh faces on the cover, articles about beauty and the fashion industry, and overall aesthetically-pleasing layout. As a product, they would ultimately have to embrace the power of technology to expand and keep it relevant -- which they did. They're active on social media, such as Instagram and Twitter, and they have a website. Their website has an amazing layout. It's black on white, with animations in the banner for the current topic in the country, and an organized news feed. It's just as aesthetically-pleasing as the magazine, like everything seems so coordinated with each photo having a contrasted color with the white background. The articles also seem to be similar to the magazines in a way; but the website itself is more updated than the magazine, which is understandable since the website is...

Traditional Distribution Model

According to my extensive research, I learned that there are three levels to the traditional distribution model: the producer, wholesaler, and retailer. Each are to protect their best interests, such as if one decides to leave the other in a transaction, then there is going to be a severe retaliation upon the product. I could directly distribute my magazine using my own salesmen and warehouse to produce it, which could decrease my costs significantly because I wouldn't have to pay for the wholesalers or the retailers. Although, that would also mean that I would have to use my own resources, wherein if I don't have a lot, then I'm in trouble. That might be how I might start out, just to spread my product around and get it some exposure. Then, if I obtain enough money and resources, then I can move on to sell through other forms of distribution. Newsagents or distribution companies would also help in spreading the magazine, like Curtis Circulation Company.  Curtis Circulation...

Article Revision

My article pages had a slight, dramatic change from the original one that I made. First of, I changed one photo in the article, which is the one in the first page because I felt that the first photo should be of similar origins to the cover photo. I also changed the titles by placing it in only one page and overlapping it with the photo because it looked better that way and made the title slightly brighter than the last to coordinate colors in the TOC and the Cover Photo. I tried to experiment with it and this was the best one of them all. Based on what I had said about the TOC, I didn't really like the small, red banner on the side because it seemed slightly distracting now in the article and it just didn't matched with anything else. I had also justified the text, so it looks more pleasing and professional. I felt that the first article I made was slightly bland, no excitement. So, I tried to make it more lively by placing a drop cap, capitalizing and bolding of the first ...

Table of Contents Revision

For the table of contents, I didn't want it to change all that much, since I really like the overall aesthetics of it. The elements I changed are very simple, but it seemed to make quite the difference, in my own opinion. I decided that September instead of winter suited my magazine better because I don't have a whole lot of pages. Most magazines that release a new issue by season are thick and very full of content, but mine is not even over 150-pages, hence I believe that it should truly be monthly. Then, I made the color of the magazine title brighter in order for it to match the cover photo title color, simply to coordinate and heighten the overall coordination of the magazine. Then, I took out the small, red banner on the side because i felt that it might've been much for the page itself already. Plus, there was no red in my cover photo, so i removed it also to coordinate colors eloquently. I also changed the font for the heading of each section of the magazine becaus...
