Digital Distribution - Seventeen

Seventeen magazine is a magazine for teenagers, meant to empower the youth by promoting self-confidence and being models or workers. Their print edition is alluring, with fresh faces on the cover, articles about beauty and the fashion industry, and overall aesthetically-pleasing layout. As a product, they would ultimately have to embrace the power of technology to expand and keep it relevant -- which they did. They're active on social media, such as Instagram and Twitter, and they have a website. Their website has an amazing layout. It's black on white, with animations in the banner for the current topic in the country, and an organized news feed. It's just as aesthetically-pleasing as the magazine, like everything seems so coordinated with each photo having a contrasted color with the white background. The articles also seem to be similar to the magazines in a way; but the website itself is more updated than the magazine, which is understandable since the website is more tangible. The articles in the website had pop culture, current news, and other fun articles. So, in that aspect, the website had a better selection of articles since it's online and is updated every so often. Their social media page, although, is much different. They can't necessarily customize their page, only the description and the photo aesthetics. It wasn't very striking for me because the photos did not coordinate at all, but I do understand that because they only show a preview about the articles in their website, etc. I do like the mini descriptions they place on the photos, which really grabs your attention. Overall, I would say that the website is slightly better than the print copy because it was able to provide actual, interesting news and it's almost as aesthetically-pleasing as the print copy. Hands down, I also believe that the website and print copy altogether is better than the Instagram version of it, just because it's not exciting or striking to say the least. I would be able to utilize their sense of a fun and hip vibe, interesting content, and aesthetically-pleasing photos.

Project Selection - Magazine

Print journalism is an easy choice to make; but, the production of the magazine itself can be easily overwhelming, but vibrant and aesthetically pleasing in the end. Print journalism screams the expression of a brand; it defines the brand itself. I've made a cover page of a magazine before and it actually turned out great, so print media might be a good choice -- considering that I have a little background knowledge. Based on the elements I learned from my class -- AICE Media Studies -- the magazine analysis and the blog samples did wonders in outlining my process. I saw what a magazine could look like, which is simple and not too overwhelming with vibrant colors or bold text designs. Other blog posts concerning magazine showed me what the blog should look like, what to do, and what not do. Table of Contents (Option 1)

This is my first draft on my table of contents. I have another idea for the table of contents, so that's coming up next. This idea came from Porter magazine. I really like it as it's simple and striking at the same time. This is what it's most likely going to look like, but the magazine has section titles and I might add it later on during the process because it separates different articles and ideas within the magazine. I might also add a little color to the section titles if I choose to do it because a plain table of contents doesn't give aesthetics. I'm thinking for the magazine title to also be colored, so it doesn't look bland. Most magazines I saw only had a single color and it seemed bland to me, which I didn't really like.
