Digital Distribution - Porter





Porter magazine is a magazine for adolescent to middle-aged women. Their print edition is very alluring because everything is so coordinated and the overall layout looks amazing and aesthetically-pleasing. It's more than 200-pages with a lot of content, not just content about beauty, but about empowerment and actual inspiring stories. As a product, they would also have to focus in expanding the name of the magazine, wherein technology could play a role in doing so. They're active on social media, such as Instagram and Twitter, and they have a website like every other magazine company. Their website is so simple and yet so complex at the same time. It's so simple in a way that everything is laid out so organized, black over white and vice versa with contrasted photos to the white background. It's also complex simply because it seemed as if the website was made with so much precision and content. It's fairly easy to navigate through it, which is important in a website that it's not so confusing. The website itself contrasts itself so much from the print copy because they dedicate a whole category for apparels that you can buy and another category for articles that showed up on the print copy. The print copy is also very alluring because everything is so organized and aesthetically-pleasing. The photos are produced with so much artistic capability and articles are so meaningful. Either way you go, both are equally as good, which is important because you can't give one type of media more than the other just because it's on a larger scale. Their social media outlet, although, is not as impressive as the rest. It is, although, extremely aesthetically-pleasing because they're not just throwing pictures to post, it's planned rather. The description shows a proper preview of the article to be shown in the website and print copy, which is important to at least grab our attentions. Overall, I do believe that all types of media for Porter magazine is very planned and aesthetically-pleasing, which is very important to a successful product. In order to utilize such artistic capabilities, I would have try and mimic their sense of art, easy navigation throughout the website, and equal content and beauty in each type of media.

Project Selection - Magazine

Print journalism is an easy choice to make; but, the production of the magazine itself can be easily overwhelming, but vibrant and aesthetically pleasing in the end. Print journalism screams the expression of a brand; it defines the brand itself. I've made a cover page of a magazine before and it actually turned out great, so print media might be a good choice -- considering that I have a little background knowledge. Based on the elements I learned from my class -- AICE Media Studies -- the magazine analysis and the blog samples did wonders in outlining my process. I saw what a magazine could look like, which is simple and not too overwhelming with vibrant colors or bold text designs. Other blog posts concerning magazine showed me what the blog should look like, what to do, and what not do. Table of Contents (Option 1)

This is my first draft on my table of contents. I have another idea for the table of contents, so that's coming up next. This idea came from Porter magazine. I really like it as it's simple and striking at the same time. This is what it's most likely going to look like, but the magazine has section titles and I might add it later on during the process because it separates different articles and ideas within the magazine. I might also add a little color to the section titles if I choose to do it because a plain table of contents doesn't give aesthetics. I'm thinking for the magazine title to also be colored, so it doesn't look bland. Most magazines I saw only had a single color and it seemed bland to me, which I didn't really like.
