Super Bowl Commercials

In furthering my research in marketing for my magazine, I came across three Super Bowl commercials that I thought would enhance how I would market my magazine to a specific target audience. I took down some of the techniques that made the commercial appealing to the target audience and how I could use it to my advantage to appeal to my target audience.

Their goal was to, essentially, make people of any age watch the Olympics and actually be interested in it by using pathos in the ad. They achieved and successfully portrayed pathos throughout the ad by showing the adversities that Lindsey Vonn faced, just to win in the Olympics; almost making us, Americans, feel patriotic because the ad show how Lindsey Vonn, an American Olympic player, went through it all and still won the games. For my magazine, I can definitely use pathos to come across my idea that anyone can be models if they're confident enough to do so.

Their goal was to show that Coca-Cola is suited to everyone who drinks it -- regardless of age, gender, color, and many others. They achieved to show this by showcasing people of different kinds and origins coming together, all with one common denominator -- Coca-Cola. It reminded everyone about diversity and that we should all embrace it. Pathos was their main technique in sending this message to their target audience; which was essentially everyone, as they wanted to send the messages to people of all ages and color, etc. I could definitely use this technique as my goal in my magazine is to embrace people of different colors, sizes, and many others.

Lastly, I decided to watch a different commercial from the other two I wanted to use for marketing, which was the Amazon commercial. They showcased Alexa, which is one of their greatest products in providing care for people in an attempt to make their lives easier. They used humor and practicality to successfully showcase all of Alexa's capabilities. They utilized some of the greatest celebrities today, like: Rebel Wilson, Gordon Ramsey, Cardi B, and Anthony Hopkins. Seeing the different celebrities involved in the ad made Alexa appeal to almost all ages, excluding children because it didn't seem realistic for children to use an Alexa. The ad itself was hilarious, but it also showed what Alexa can do -- from searching recipes, to calculations, to playing music, and to calling people. I could use their subtle techniques in my magazine and definitely humor because fashion magazines tend to be more serious; I would like to incorporate a bit of humor to lighten up the mood in my magazine.

Behind the Scenes (Article)

I didn't get much photos of me taking the photos to show production because the person I called over did not arrive in time and it was salient for us to be finished by 10, hence here are two pictures of me taking a picture during one part of the photo shoot.

Project Selection - Magazine

Print journalism is an easy choice to make; but, the production of the magazine itself can be easily overwhelming, but vibrant and aesthetically pleasing in the end. Print journalism screams the expression of a brand; it defines the brand itself. I've made a cover page of a magazine before and it actually turned out great, so print media might be a good choice -- considering that I have a little background knowledge. Based on the elements I learned from my class -- AICE Media Studies -- the magazine analysis and the blog samples did wonders in outlining my process. I saw what a magazine could look like, which is simple and not too overwhelming with vibrant colors or bold text designs. Other blog posts concerning magazine showed me what the blog should look like, what to do, and what not do. I like to consider myself to be an artistic person, I like my ideas to be aesthetically pleasing, and I'm pretty much extra in a lot of aspects of my art. So, considering my artistic capabil...

Table of Contents (Option 1)

This is my first draft on my table of contents. I have another idea for the table of contents, so that's coming up next. This idea came from Porter magazine. I really like it as it's simple and striking at the same time. This is what it's most likely going to look like, but the magazine has section titles and I might add it later on during the process because it separates different articles and ideas within the magazine. I might also add a little color to the section titles if I choose to do it because a plain table of contents doesn't give aesthetics. I'm thinking for the magazine title to also be colored, so it doesn't look bland. Most magazines I saw only had a single color and it seemed bland to me, which I didn't really like.
